Project Status: Complete
This project addresses the growing number of regional architectures and their shifting visions in Southeast Asia from the perspective of inclusive and sustainable development. These regional architectures include long-standing ones, such as the ADB’s Greater Mekong Subregion, new ones such as the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Framework, and recently revived ones including the Ayeyarwady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy.
A key activity of CSDS is to organize and host a series of deep dives on the following:
Evolving regional architecture and transboundary water governance in the Mekong Region
Catalyzing sustainable electricity transformation in the Mekong Region
Strategic assessment in the Mekong Region for sustainability transformation
Each deep dive aims to collaboratively generate a state of knowledge on the current status, trends, opportunities, and challenges in the particular topic, identify strategic opportunities for transformative and just solutions, determine short-term and long-term research needs, and link together regional communities of researchers from various backgrounds.
CSDS also collaborates with The Asia Foundation that is hosting a series of Track 1.5 Mekong Policy Dialogues on various aspects of the evolving sub-regional architectures in the Mekong Region.
The project has received support from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Australian Government and is undertaken in collaboration with The Asia Foundation.
